Colours stimulated and inspired by a Suffolk cottage form the basis for the Mudlark + Tempest Original Collection.

The Paints

The Original Collection

These colours are based on the land, sea and sky of Suffolk. We will be adding new colour collections seasonally, inspired by different periods of art, architecture and whatever else strikes our fancy.

Material Characteristics

These colours are formulated in eicó, whose paint is manufactured in Iceland and Sweden. The highest quality paint available today is 100% pure acrylic base. Swedish pigment colourants are rigorously tested to withstand Nordic conditions which is why eicó paint is suitable for both interior and exterior application. High solids content assures washability and durability.

Application

Waterborne, low odour, very low VOCs and APEO free characterise eicó Alterior Matt and Alterior Eggshell paints. Both dry to a non-yellowing flat finish with excellent colour retention, have low dirt pick-up, good weathering properties and washability.

Both adhere well to aged oil-based paints, are easy to use and have very good hiding power. Ideal for childrens’ bedrooms and playrooms and highly suitable for those with chemical sensitivities, asthma and allergies.

Eco Credentials

Eco products should consider a product’s performance from inception through production and application to the end of its serviceable lifespan. These eicò paints reflect a high degree of environmental responsibility.

Energy used in manufacturing the 100% acrylic base is supplied by Iceland’s abundant renewable geothermal and hydropower sources. This low-cost energy source achieves high environmental value by reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Sweden’s colourant manufacturing facility has progressively increased its green credentials and is currently majority powered by renewable energy on its way to 100% renewables.

Transport effects on the environment should also be considered. As Iceland is a net importer, the container ships returning to the UK are typically 30-40% empty, offering opportunities to take advantage of under-utilized freight capacity.

Ultimately, the high quality of these paints, based on the 100% pure acrylic base and high solids content, assures that for a properly executed application less paint is needed, as it will go further with better coverage thereby reducing the frequency of renewal and the impact on the environment.
